"Hand-carved, hand-engraved, hand-etched, hand-inked, hand-printed."
It all begins with onsite sketches and reference photos, a line drawing follows, pulling together all the elements of the idea and composition. The rough image is then transferred onto a chosen media like wood, linoleum, metal, plastic, and then the creation begins. My approach at this point is loose and painterly as I use various cutting, etching and molding tools in a free-flow technique to create the printable image. All prints are then hand-printed by me in limited editions at my studio.
Larger printmaking
A selection of large format 9"x12" up to 18"x28" hand-printed original prints produced in very unique, small editions. Many come from two of my ongoing themes. "Rural Detours" evokes a strong sense of place while paying tribute to the rich history and beauty of our local rural landscapes, that the onslaught of progress is quickly changing.
"Sanctuary" is a personal story of finding sanctuary within the landscape I live in.
Smaller printmaking
A selection of smaller 3"x4" up to 8"x12", hand-printed original prints produced in both small and large editions. My wandering eye brings common places, things, and characters to life. I take great joy in discovering extraordinary icons in seemingly ordinary places, as often seen in my linocut print series "Local Sketches".
